Perspective

Zachary had his friend Luke over to play this afternoon. They were having a lot of fun playing golf in the front yard. Until they both lost track of where they were in the yard and Luke's super fast golf swing ended in Zachary's forehead.
[cringe]
Yes, and since I was 20 feet away, I still have the image of an awful lot of blood gushing from Zachary's forehead and running down both of his hands as he held them over his face.
[cringe]
Poor Luke, I'm pretty sure he was just as upset as Zachary. He's such a sweet boy and to see Zachary's face covered in blood was probably very traumatic. Both boys were crying as I called Todd to come home so I could take Zachary to the ER.
The good news is that Zachary did not have a concussion. At the ER, the question of the day was "Was it a real golf club?" to which I answered "Yes, very much. A real golf club, kids' size. And a legitimate golf swing."
Zachary was SUCH a trooper at the ER. He couldn't have been better. I am so proud of him. He handled the x-rays great and after I explained "stitches" to him, he told me he was ready for them to "cut & sew" so he could get his Popsicle.
The doctor did 3 stitches inside the gash (quite deep) and 5 stitches on the outside. Zachary talked about Panda, counted to 100 by tens a few times and even reminisced a bit to help distract himself from the "cutting & sewing." I could not believe how well he handled that. I, on the other hand, not so well...it was just a bit too deep for my comfort.

Tonight when we were getting ready for bed, I said, "I'm sorry you had such a tough day buddy." He said, "It was a good day, Mommy. I had fun with Luke and I got that cookie after dinner. And the hospital was really cool with all that stuff and that fun bed."

I'm so glad that's his take on today. The things I learn from him.

Little White Lie?

Zachary: "Mommy, how long does it take to get to the north pole?"

Mommy: "Oh it takes a very long time. It is all the way at the top of the world. See, (pointing at the map) we are here in Georgia, right above Florida and the North Pole is all the way up here."

Zachary: "But how long would it take for us to get there?"

Mommy: "A few days, buddy. It's a long way."

Zachary: "No, that's not right, Mommy. Uncle Dan told me he went to the north pole the other day when he was getting donuts....and that didn't take very long."

Fall Pictures

My friend Christin took these pictures of the kids last week. I love them! The dress Allie is wearing was handmade by my grandmother. Allie especially loves to twirl around & around in it! My favorite picture of Zachary is the second picture below. My favorite of Allie is the tenth below. They are all really sweet though.
