Memorial Day '09: Zachary

Here are some cute pictures of Zach from our time in Florida.
We attempted to fly a little kite. As far as Zachary knows, it was a complete success:

Super cool!:
Some of you may already know this, but Zachary is very interested in birds (we have not figured out where this came from, although there are a few bird-lovers on the extended family tree). He has several Audubon bird books & Encyclopedias that he loves to look at. He can identify probably close to 50 different birds and recognizes specific bird calls & songs. Anyway, he was SO excited when these two storks stopped by to eat some bread we had.

He enjoyed fishing with Daddy & Grandpa. This was the first time HE actually caught one (with some help reeling it in!):

And, of course, I love him & his little maps!!:

Memorial Day Weekend '09: Allie

These are some cute pictures of Allie from our weekend in Florida.
In this first one, I have no idea where she'd learn to use her eyes like that! Ha!
This next picture is just plain cute. Love her little mouth...
Grammy's phone became the most interesting thing she's discovered in her 15 months of life.
Loved the beach -
Loves Grammy -
Especially loves Daddy & Grandpa...
Enjoyed the sand, even when it was in her mouth.
And, of course, she was going to jump from the edge like big brother Zachary. I imagine her singing that line, "...anything you can do, I can do better..." because she just watches him and then follows exactly what he does - sometimes without fear!

Sea World, Round 2

Over Memorial Day weekend, we spent some time in Florida at Grammy & Grandpa's. I'll have a few more posts from our weekend.
Because we only made it through half of Sea World over Christmas, we decided to use their season tickets and head back to see the rest of the park. It was a great day. Here's how the kids looked after all the fun!

I took the kids to this play area with "stuff" for little kids while all the grown-ups rode the newest roller coaster at the park. We tried to get a good picture, but both kids were completely uncooperative. But my mom caught this picture, which makes me laugh!
We went to the Shamu show, which was our main priority, because we missed it over Christmas. The kids loved the show, especially Allie. I missed half the show because I was watching her reactions. Love this sweetie little girl!!!!

We ate dinner at this awesome dinosaur restaurant that I can't even explain. It was out of this world! It is called T-Rex and Zachary LOVED it. Very cool!!
Cute little picture of Allie Marie & Uncle Ryan -
Great picture of the family. We were missing a few very special members, but it was a great time.

The United States

...well, 46/50 of them!

I think he missed a few of the "N" states - New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire & Nevada, but that's not too bad for a 3-year old!

Signs of Spring

...sunglasses
...rolling down the freshly-mowed grass hill (in pajamas, of course!)
...Todd's lawn-mowing gear (yes, I know...!)
...the wonderful smell of FRESH cut green grass
...rodents (affectionately known as "jumpy squirrels") on our back porch eating the BIRD food and making a huge mess
...an empty bird's nest, which means a proud mama bird, right?
...Allie's first time playing in the rain
...Zachary, veteran puddle jumper, showing her the ropes!
...sweet little feet splashing in the puddles

Alliese, Allieish, Allietalk?

(I can't decide which is better, in regards to Allie's language. So, you have to help.)
As a mother of two, I guess I'm just now realizing I will learn another new language. I don't know what I expected - clearly I know Allie will have her own first words, separate from Zachary's first words. Anyway, I am SUPER excited about the challenge of figuring out her little language. Here are some of her very first words:

Daddy: "da-da" (she has been saying this since Christmas...little stinker!)
Mommy: "mumum"
Zach: "Da" (the "a " sounds like cat...or Zach!)
Lion: "wyun"
What does a lion say?: "raur"
Dog: "Do-g" (silent "g", and as with Zach's name, she says the "D" with excitement!)
Ball: "Ba"
Shoes: "shhhh...shhhh..."
Blanket: "b-et"
Hi: "hi-ya"
Bye: she whispers "b-b"
Diaper: "di-pa"
Hat: she smacks the top of her head and says "at"
Bubbles: she blows air out of her mouth twice and then says, "bu-bowl"
Eat: she smacks her mouth a few times and yells "ahk"

A few other things about Allie -
1. She has a very bad temper. Much worse than Zach's. And, if he takes something from her, she goes after him - physically. I hate to admit that I've heard, "Mommy make her stop, she's hurting me!" many times over the past month. I also hate to admit that I've had to walk away from the scene because of my own laughter before I discipline her.

2. She is very aware of any smells, good or bad. She'll start sniffing & scrunching her little nose, then yell something to ask about the smell.

3. She is very affectionate. She gives hugs & kisses a lot. She also blows kisses randomly throughout the day and wants to be held often.

4. She's a good eater & a great sleeper - now. She wasn't either of these things at first, but has settled into both since about 10-12 months.

5. She is very well-behaved and minds well. We don't have to discipline her nearly as much as we did Zachary. (My veteran mom friends tell me this is very common with girls.)

6. She is very observant - communicating with a lot of pointing and doesn't miss a thing. If I'm doing something with Zachary in another room, she's waddling her little self in there within 10 seconds, to see what's going on.

Strawberry Pickin'

Sunny day. Rows of green. Yummy berries. Another first for Allie Marie. I love watching her discover new things.

Little Mind

Zachary's Sunday school teacher had the children answer questions about their moms. Then she made a little Mother's Day card with their answers. Here are Zachary's answers about me:

My mom's favorite food is: Pizza
My mom weighs: 45 lbs.
My mom is as tall as: The house
My mom is: 36 years old

Love it!

Happy Mother's Day!

Wishing a Happy Mother's Day to my mom. 30 years ago, I imagine you were not too sure about this whole mother thing. There were probably a few other things you were thinking about doing! But thanks for making the choice to be a real, fully-committed, self-sacrificing mother. I am blessed because of your selflessness. I hope you feel especially loved today.

AZ '09: Part III

This third set of pictures from our Arizona trip just has some random pics.
The kids on the plane:

The landscaping in Arizona is very different from Georgia. With the exception of the golf courses, there isn't any grass. Mimi has a great collection of really pretty & colorful flowers & cacti all over their yard. Zachary enjoyed looking at all the plants (especially cactus).

We all enjoyed the nice view from their back patio:

A nice picture of Mimi & Zachary waiting for hummingbirds while the sun was rising:
The kids watched some movies together:
Getting ready for a fancy dinner party:
